The Tampa Bay EV Association is an all-volunteer organization that works to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in the Tampa Bay area and to educate our community about the benefits of driving electric. We are a Chapter of the Electric Vehicle Association (EVA) of America.
In order to meet the US commitments made in the Paris Agreements, we need to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030 and go down to Net Zero by 2050. Today, road transportation drives climate change as one of the largest sources of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions worldwide, in the U.S. and in Florida. Our mission is to promote a quick transition to electric transportation, including electric cars, electric vans, electric trucks and buses, and electric motorcycles, in the Tampa Bay area.
Electric Vehicles are safer and more affordable to own than comparable fossil fuel vehicles. EVs are more energy efficient, resulting in lower energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions. With fewer moving parts in their engines, they require less maintenance, with no oil or timing-belt changes and fewer breakdowns. Electric vehicles are also ten times less likely to catch fire than a gasoline car.
Today, many Americans are thinking about buying an electric car for their next vehicle. We help them make educated choices by bringing together EV owners and prospective EV buyers. Talking to current EV owners you can ask your questions about electric vehicle ownership, and they can share their experiences as EV owners without the pressure of talking to a car salesman. Come join us during our National Drive Electric Week or Drive Electric Earth Day events. We’ll love to answer your questions too. We also work with car companies to organize Drive and Ride events, where you can have hands-on experience on driving an electric vehicle.
Another area where it is important to promote the transition to EVs is in public and private vehicle fleets, such as electric school buses, municipal vehicle fleets and corporate fleets. There are car rental companies, such as Hertz and Avis, which are already offering electric cars. Renting an EV for a few days can be an excellent way to try out driving an electric car and see how it works for you.
We must not overlook the silent revolution going on in the world of electric motorcycles. “There are now nearly 300 million electric motorcycles/scooters/2-3 wheelers on the road worldwide and they are displacing four times as much oil demand as all the electric cars in the world so far” (Bloomberg NEF Electric Vehicle Outlook 2023). It is important to remember that in many countries motorcycles and scooters are the primary means of transportation and users are already taking advantage of the myriad of very affordable electric bikes and motorbikes already in the market. In the US you can already see on the road some high-performance electric motorbikes like the Harley-Davidson LiveWire or the Zero electric motorcycle.
We are already experiencing the consequences of human-induced climate change. While many of the things that need to get done, such as more stringent fuel efficiency standards, or EV-friendly building codes, require the intervention of government authorities, there are some choices that we can make on our own, such as adding solar panels to our home or choosing to purchase and electric car for our next car. We are here to help!!!
There are many good reasons to drive electric. EVs are fun to drive. They are fuel efficient and require less maintenance. They are safer, ten times less likely to catch fire than conventional cars. They are better for the environment across the board. Check out PlugStar or Contact us to explore the numerous options.
Your volunteer service can have a lasting positive impact on the fight against climate change. If you are interested in helping to bring about the transition to clean transportation, we have multiple volunteering opportunities. Volunteers applying for in-person positions must be fully vaccinated.
Your donations power up our team’s work to replace fossil fuel vehicles with clean electric vehicles in the Tampa Bay Area. We need all the help we can get to educate, advocate, and fight the misinformation about fossil fuel vehicles. Your financial donation of any size will help fund this mission.
